IDAHO LEGISLATIVE ADVISORS

The Idaho Legislative Advisors is a non-profit organization of government affairs and lobbying professionals which provides members with a variety of services during the legislative session and works to better the practices of lobbying and advocacy. The ILA is governed by a volunteer Executive Committee

The ILA manages the Lobbyist Room at the Idaho Capitol. Please contact the Lobby Room Supervisor regarding how to obtain the required green lobbyist name tag.

ETHICS

The ILA fosters best practices of lobbying and representing clients and interests at the state level; promotes increased awareness and understanding of the lobbying profession; and encourages the highest standards of integrity, credibility and ethics based on the National Association of State Lobbyists Statement of Lobbying Principles.

The ILA encourages its members to read the NASL Lobbying Principles and apply them to their professional activities.

HISTORY

In the early 1970s, House Speaker William Lanting called a small group of lobbyists to his office to discuss the recent remodel of the Legislative Chambers. Prior to the renovation, lobbyists would position themselves just off the chambers behind the curtains, but this area was soon walled off as the Speaker feared that lobbyists would clog the entry way. There were, after all, nearly 12 lobbyists working the legislature at that time!

The Speaker suggested that they form a group, and he would find them an outlying area to office. Thus, the Idaho Legislative Advisors (ILA) was born. The ILA was formally incorporated on July 16, 1990 with the following two purposes identified in the Articles of Incorporation: (1) To establish and maintain facilities for the use and convenience of its members; and (2) To foster and promote professional and ethical standards of conduct among its members.

Today’s 175+ Idaho Legislative Advisors continue to be committed to these purposes as an integral part of the Idaho legislative process and call the Capitol's West Garden Level Room 21 home as the Lobbyist Room.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The ILA Board of Directors consists of eleven (11) association, contract, corporate, and non-profit lobbying professionals. Directors are nominated by the ILA Nominations Committee and elected to three-year terms by the ILA membership at the annual member meeting.  The ILA Nominations Committee selects nominees in an effort to best represent and reflect the make-up of the current ILA membership.

The Board of Directors elects the officers President, Secretary, and Treasurer to two year terms. These officers also serve on the ILA Executive Committee with the Past President and Nominations Committee Chair.
